Day 3 - Fougères

So what is Fougères known for? There is the castle which makes for a fantastic photo if you get the morning sun; these two photos were taken last night.
There is also the cyclist Georges Groussard who rode from 1960 to 1967 and came fifth in the 1964 edition of the Tour de France so was no cycling slouch. Unlike me as my legs haven't really got going; today is a longer day with more climbing but I can ride lighter today as I return to Fougères where I stay for three nights.
It is the 18 September 2025 today and there is a strike (grève). I see the group of strikers later in the day and it all appears peaceful enough.
The sun hadn't quite broke out for my morning stroll around town and another attempt at a photo of the castle though my phone is never going to capture the beauty of this castle.
I am of course putting off my departure as today the plan is 50 miles. Oh well, into the fray I go just like Amand Tuffin pictured below.
As a side note Amand Tuffin (pictured above) fought to help America gain independence from the British Empire.

Not many route photos today despite it being a great ride with rolling countryside, villages, churches and farms. My lunch was a chorizo quiche. A banana and a snickers bar provided mid-ride sustenance.
I passed entrances to the greenaway a couple of times. I have cycled this before on a Cycle Tour of Brittany and it was very tempting to take the short flat route back to town.
Today's route was probably designed as a Sunday morning club run as it comprises a big circuit around Fougères with good roads and not too much traffic. Anyone needing to shorten the 50-mile route could easily cut into town at any point. Towards the end when the route finally cuts back into town I see it is a main road despite there being an obvious quieter route with only 3km extra; I took the short way.
Tomorrow is more of an out and back as I visit Vitré.  I have been there before but can't quite recall it at this moment amongst the many French medieval towns in my memory bank.
